Smith-Midland chosen for International Airport project

To meet the air transportation needs of their region over the next 20 years Norfolk International Airport Authority engaged renowned architectural firm Gresham Smith to study and and implement design and structural changes to the facility. The airport currently serves over 3 million passengers a year in one of the fastest growing metro areas in Virginia. As part of the master plan to achieve the needed results, The Airport Authority hired Virginia’s Hourigan Construction to build a much needed long-term parking structure. In turn Hourigan's has contracted Smith-Midland to manufacture and erect $3.22million in architectural precast concrete cladding panels for the complex.

The US 50 span over the Severn River Bridge in Annapolis, MD is 2,856 linear feet long and nearly 100 feet high, serving 125,000 drivers daily.

$2.2m Transportation Project Awarded to Smith-Midland

Smith-Midland Corporation project announcement. FAM Construction, LLC (a Ferrovial Agroman US and Allan Myers joint venture) has awarded Smith-Midland the contract to supply 6,700 precast concrete lagging panels as part of the I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes project in Northern Virginia. The project will run along the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-66.

Lagging panels are supplied for post and panel walls for the purpose of retaining earth. They will be cast in the Midland, Virginia plant with a variety of architectural designs to coordinate with the overall project design and neighborhood requirements. Production of the panels has begun and will continue into 2021.

Fauquier Health and Smith-Midland are making Wellness a Priority

Smith-Midland Corporation (Midland, VA) recently partnered with Fauquier Health to promote the health system’s newly implemented “WorkPoint Wellness Program.” The WorkPoint Wellness Program is a corporate wellness program offered to local employers to meet occupational health needs, encourage wellness activities including preventative health screenings, educational lectures, exercise classes and more. The program seeks to help employers meet the health needs of their employees, encourage health and wellness, and avoid missed work days. This partnership launched with during Smith-Midland’s recent annual health fair and had participation from over 80 associates.

Japanese factories inspire Smith-Midland to improve

Two Liberty High School graduates traveled to Japan last month to help Fauquier County’s largest manufacturer improve efficiency.

Smith-Midland Corp.’s A.J. Krick and Vaughncarl Gardner joined “lean manufacturing” guru Paul A. Akers on a tour with 12 other business representatives from around the globe. In four days, Mr. Akers and Japanese colleagues led the group through 10 factories, a grocery store and an elementary school on the island of Kyushu, where 12.9 million people live and work.
